Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I woke up middle of the night with chest pain, right side, middle of pectoral. Soreness continues today, all day. Deep breathing increases pain, as pain becomes more centralized, & sharper. I cannot determine if pain is originating in pectoral muscle, although it does feel like it could be muscular &/or ribs. I appreciate your time & assistance. Thanx & take care, JT
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Chest pain that is affected by breathing and that is sharp is very likely a muscular pain. Please take paracetamol and ibuprofen to help with pain and if no improvement in a day or two or very soon if any worsening please see your doctor to rule out pneumothorax. Pneumothorax is very rare and unlikely in your case as it is mostly related to trauma but it can also happen spontaneously in certain patients and may cause pain that is worse with breathing.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Antoneta Zotaj
