I'm having chest pains right in the middle of my chest. I am a 52 year old Black Female I am on High blood medicine (Hydrochlorothiazide) 12mg 2 capsules daily also ( Simvastatin ) 20mg once daily and (Famotidine) 40 mg once daily . Chest pain arise when laying down what can be the cause ?
Hello, Thank you for trusting HCM. The cause might be to esophageal regurgitation, acidic secretions from the stomach moving up the esophagus creating this pain and burning sensation, aggravated by posture such as lying down. Change your diet habits, avoid eating before laying down, avoid drinking tea or coffee before laying down, avoid chilli fried or oily food might help. If this persisted please refer to your doctor for proper management of the symptoms. Hope that helped. Dr. Ahmad
Chest pain can be due to any structure in the chest from the skin inwards.
This means that it can originate from the skin, muscles and ligaments. bones, esophagus, heart or lungs.
Heart related pain tends to worse with activity , associated with shortness of breath, palpitations, central pain that is heavy or tight in nature. If the pain is similar to this then you need to visit your doctor for an assessment as soon as possible.
Your doctor would be able to determine if the pain is related to one of the other structures if heart related pain is unlikely.
This would involve history, physical examination and relevant examination.
I hope this helps
