We will try to help you in the best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what your husband had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, chest pain can be due to respiratory tract infection as diagnosed on chest X-ray however cardiac elements should be carefully excluded. If first EKG was normal, repeat EKG alongside Echocardiogram and cardiac enzymes should be done. ETT test may be done once shortness of breath gets better. Good blood pressure control is mandatory to put less burden on heart. A cardiologist review should be a priority.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
