Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hello i m a 53 yo man in excellent condition with no history of heart disease. during an easy swim yesterday i experienced a mild chest discomfort-- a pain in the order of 2 not even 3 with 1 being the lowest. in the 24 hours since it has come and gone about 7-8 times lasting about 30 seconds to a minute if that. is this angina? does this need treatment?
Hello, Thank you for the question I recommend that you go to the emergency department immediately since Coronary artery disease need to be ruled out especially since you are a male above 50 years. The pain you are describing typically associated with angina. More over your risk increases with history of diabetics , hypertension , peripheral vascular disease and positive family history.
I RECOMMEND THAT YOU TAKE 2 ASPIRIN 75 MG TABLETS IF AVAILABLE AT HOME BEFORE GOING TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM.
At the emergency room you will need a ECG taken ,started on antiplatelet and anticoagulant medications. If ECG comes normal, you will need to undergo exercise stress test and further work up including angiography.
Hope I was helpful regards. Dr.Lekshmi
