Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I had low fever 99.6 degrees with chills and body ache 4 days back, I took a paracetamol tablet and was ok, then since 2 days I have been having stomach cramps, yesterday evening I again had 99.6 fever with chills and body ache, for which I took paracetamol. What could be causing these symptoms? Do I need to get any tests done. I am a 38 year old male living in India.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Chills is usually associated with high grade fever. Fever accompanied with chills is usually caused by bacterial infections. Some of these infections are- urinary tract infection, cholangitis, salpingitis, pneumonia, meningitis etc. Fever associated with body aches is seen in viral infections. Paracetamol, rest and good hydration are needed in viral infection. However, since you are experiencing chills along with fever, there is possibility of an infectious focus. I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment and thus management. In the meanwhile, you can take symptomatic treatment. Maintain good hydration by taking sufficient fluids and good nutritious food.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
