Hi,
Thanks for writing to HCM.
Chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by bacteria. People who have chlamydia often do not have outward symptoms in the early stages. It can cause health problems in the later stages, including preventing women from getting pregnant or even endangering their pregnancies.
Unprotected sex without a condom and
unprotected oral sex are the main ways a
chlamydia infection can spread. It need not be penetration one. Even touching genitals together may also transmit the bacteria. It can also be contracted during anal sex.
Most people don’t notice the symptoms of chlamydia. Symptoms appear usually one to three weeks after you have been infected. Some of the most common symptoms include:
1. burning sensation during urination
2. discharge from the penis or vagina (yellow or green)
3. pain in the lower abdomen
4. pain in the testicles
5. painful sexual intercourse in women
The most effective diagnostic test for chlamydia is to swab the vagina in women and to test the urine in men.
Chlamydia infection is easy to treat. Antibiotic used include
Azithromycin in a single, large dose, but the dose may also be spread out over 5 days or Doxycycline to be taken twice per day for one week.
Hope the information provided is useful.
You can get evaluated and treated accordingly. All the best.
