What Causes Chlorine Taste In Mouth?

Hi, my name is Karen. I am presently suffering from acid reflux, bile reflux and a disorder termed laryngo pharyngeal reflux. I am on medications such as pantecta twice per day for the reflux, and other medications for hypertension and rapid heart beats. Yesterday I began experiencing a chlorine taste in my mouth which only occurs in the afternoon. Can you please assist in determining why this is happening? Thank you.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to Health Care Magic Team.

Understanding your concern.

Chlorine taste in mouth could be because of laryngo pharyngeal reflux which means back flow of food or stomach acid all the way back to throat/ larynx. This will bad taste in mouth. Viral oral infection could be a cause for this. along with bad taste it can cause trouble in breathing, swallowing, sorethroat, postnasal drip.

-Ways this can be resolved is avoidance of caffeine, chocolate, soda, coffee.

-Avoid eating with in 2-3 hrs of bed time and don not lie down immediately after having food.

-Antacids such as pantoprazole, omeprazole, ranitidine can be used to avoid acids.

- Change in life style like regular exercise, avoidance of stress.

If you still keep on having such symptoms then you should visit gastroenterology specialist.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
