What Causes Choking And Gagging In The Morning?

My husband is choking and gagging every morning --sometimes to the point of throwing up. I suggested an allergy pill which helped just slightly. His doctor suggested Zantac which did absolutely nothing. Now it seems to continue all day long. Any suggestions on what might be causing this? He has had it for years. It seems to be getting worse.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* As per my case evaluation, the underlying cause of chocking and gagging has to be sorted out for further management which can be

- Anxiety
- GERD from various reasons
- Dryness of upper respiratory tract mucosa
- others.

* I would like to discuss further with all reports done till now by your family doc for the same so that better guidelines can be worked on.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
