General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Achalasia can cause difficulty with swallowing and pain. On the other hand, a check to rule out structural causes is important. I would recommend you to have an upper endoscopic examination to visualize the esophagus and the stomach and rule out important conditions. If the endoscopy is normal then very likely achalasia is the cause of your symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
