What Causes Choking Sensation In Throat After Food Intake?
My husband when eating certain foods tends to have trouble swallowing it and it gets stuck causing him to get sick and then he can't eat anymore. At times he seems to feel like his food is just sitting there in his throat. It can even last a good while until he is able to burp or throw up. What could this be?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of choking sensation in throat after food intake which are pointing towards upper respiratory tract infection , which can be caused by bacterial or viral infection. It could be due to gastroesophageal reflux disease. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order test like throat swab test and blood test to confirm the diagnosis and rule out causes. You should go for endoscopy as well. Doctor may prescribe antibacterial amoxicillin or anti viral acyclovir depending upon the diagnosis along with decongestants. For now continue doing gargles and drink one spoon of honey mix with glass of lukewarm water. You should take steam inhalation along with vaporizers. Avoid hot, sharp , spicy food.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
