Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had this problem before and it happened again today, while eating something with vinegar in it I started choking and gasping for air. So I have been avoiding vinegar. today I took a bite of pie, choked a little and within a few seconds it happened again, gasping for air, it seemed to last long enough that I thought I would pass out. Could this chocking cause an asthma attack?
If you are allergic to certain ingredients of the food you are eating you might develop severe allergic reaction to it and in some cases it might cause swelling in the throat and be life threatening. it seems similar to asthma attack but it is called anaphylaxis. It might also cause swelling on the lips or the eyes together with the shortness of breath and cough.
You might need to see your doctor and probably have some allergy tests to try to identify the offending agent and try to avoid its use. Try to avoid using food that you are not sure of the ingredients as well.
I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards, Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
