Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 10 year old boy ran into the kitchen choking/gagging after eating a piece of chocolate. At first I thought he was going to throw up and then realized he might be choking...I asked him if he was choking and he shook his head no but it seemed like it as he was gasping... The episode ended and he said its been happening. One other time at school when he got a drink of water out of the water fountain. He said both times it felt like it was stuck. Wondering what could be causing this? Super scary
First of all it's sad to know what your son had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, he needs evaluation at the earliest by an ENT specialist for a detailed throat examination as some structural lesion or obstruction needs to be ruled out ranging from meeting tonsils, adenoids or pharyngeal pouch.
If that is normal, gastroenterologist review and endoscopy may be needed. Symptoms of dysphagia or odynophagia needs workup and can't be ignored at all.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin,
