What Causes Chronic Bronchitis?

Hello. I ve had two chest x-rays. The radiologist noted on one lung irritation and the one I just got back under lungs said chronic bronchitis. I wasn t having these xray done to check my lungs at all. I juse noticed the comments. The thing is, I don t smoke, no COPD, I ve never ever had bronchitis. I haven t been sick. I don t cough. Why would my xray say that? I called to confirm there wasn t an error and they said no error. Obviously I will follow up and ask my DR I m just looking for some lead advice.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

To be very honest, chronic bronchitis is not to be defined by X-ray, we define chronic bronchitis if there is a chronic cough for for most of the days of 3 months of at least two years, so I wonder about the report however there may be some evidence on the X-ray which may indicate that the there is chronic inflammation in in the airway. What I would advise, I would like you must talk to a pulmonologist who would talk to you examine your and then see the X-ray. He will be in a very better position to tell you what is there. Another option would be if you could talk to your radiologist and discuss what could be the possibility.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
