What Causes Chronic Constipation Along With Pain In Lower Back?
It is not unusual for me to go a week or more without a bowel movement. It is uncomfortable and the sides of my hips and my lower back hurt when I go that long. Any ideas? Advice? I know about drinking more water and exercise, but I have not had the other uncomfortable pain before. My lifestyle changed since moving to a new job and area 3.5 years ago. I sit at work almost nonstop all day. Am I worried for nothing and just need to move more? Nevermind: didn t realize you wanted to charge me for advice. I can go to the doctor on my own and pay. I have great insurance. Thanks anyway!
Severe constipation can be associated with pain in the lower back but if the pain is severe you may want to rule out other causes by imaging of the spine.
As you mentioned, drinking a lot of fluids is important along with exercise. This is combined with a high fiber diet, fiber supplements can also be added eg metamucil, cetrucil, benefiber.
Avoid any medications or supplements that would worsen constipation, this includes the regular use of laxatives. If these are used too often, they can actually worsen constipation.
I hope this helps
