My four year old grandson has chronic constipation and has only one or two bowel movements a week. His stools are the size of an adult fist, very hard and painful to pass. He has very frequent, almost continuous gas. He eats a diet rich in fruits and vegetables and is encouraged to drink throughout the day. He is very active. Miralax causes him to have accidents and so his parents have stopped using it. I was thinking that he possibly has Hirschsprungs. Is that realistic? What else would you recommend? Is it usual for a child suffering constipation to have such large stools.
