What Causes Chronic Cough After Removal Of Tonsils And Adenoids?
My 4 year old had his tonsils and adenoids out 10 days ago. He had been extremely good since then however yesterday he started a croupy cough. He says it hurts a little but nothing to bad. Is it common to have a cough and congested 7-10 after surgery? Also my sons dad never gave me the hospital discharge papers when I got him(50/50 custody) so I didn t give him the pain medicine only the antibiotic. He never complained about pain once should I have given him the pain medicine every 6 hours like it was in the paperwork(that he refused to give me or let me see)
Yes, you should definitely give him pain medicines. Its only 10th post operative day. And painkillers are needed for first 15 days. So better start painkillers. Also get done chest x ray to rule out pneumonia as a cause for his coughing. Coughing is unlikely after surgery. But pneumonia (complicated by surgery) can produce coughing. So better to get done chest X-ray. If X-ray is normal then no need to worry much.
Hope I have answered your query.
