What Causes Chronic Cough Along With Breathing Difficulty And Swollen Eyes?

I had pneumonia last year around this time with a pleural infusion in my right lung. Today I am very heavy headed, raspy cough that hurts, eyes are swollen and one is pussy. Throat hurts and difficulty breathing. I m not one to complain but I m scared I may have pneumonia again and after spending a week in isolation in the hospital I really don t want to get it again.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is very understandable to be concerned with a previous history of hospitalization for pneumonia.

IN most cases, coughs and colds are due to viral infection so it is possible that this is the case for you.

Treatment would involve fluids, rest, analgesia such as paracetamol. If the shortness of breath continues , however, you really need to be seen.

Conjunctivitis (infection of the conjunctiva of the eye) is also commonly due to viral infection but with a history of swelling and copious discharge, bacterial infection of the eye needs to be ruled out.

Viral conjunctivitis is treated with eye hygiene mainly but bacterial infection would need eye antibiotics.

I hope this helps
