What Causes Chronic Cough Along With Mild Headaches?
I AM 80 YEARS OLD (FEMALE) IN GENERALLY GOOD HEALTH. HOWEVER, IN THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS I HAVE HAD A HACKING COUGH - SOMEWHAT RELIEVED BY COUGH DROPS AND COUGH SYRUP. I HAVE MILD HEADACHE AND SOMETIMES COUGH UP MUCUS. I HAVE NO FEVER. MY DOCTOR HAS PRESCRIBED TESSALON 200MG, WHICH DOES HELP TEMPORARILLY BUT DOESN T CURE IT. I SLEEP FAIRLY WELL, BUT OFTEN HAVE TO GET UP AND LEAVE THE BEDROOM SO MY HUSBAND CAN SLEEP. ANY SUGGESTIONS? `THANK YOU. , DOLORES ( YYYY@YYYY
Cause of chronic cough: 1. Tuberculosis 2. viral disease 3. Smoker cough 4. Bronchitis/broncheactasis 5. Lung cancer rarely
Take following advice: 1. Complete bed rest 2. avoid heavy physical activity/ weight lifting 3. Paracetamol/ ibuprofen injection/tablet for fever and pain. 4. Oral Prednisone tablet :it is anti inflammatory to reduce symptoms of pharyngeal pain,odynophagia, or enlarged tonsils 5. Antibiotics-levofloxacin 500 mg once daily for 5 days: to prevent secondary bacterial infection 6. Drink plenty of luke warm water 7. Gargling with warm salted water/betadine 1 % 3-4 times per day you can also take tablet strepsils. 8. Avoid to go in congested area. use humidifier. 9. Avoid cold water, ice cream and coldrinks.
