What Causes Chronic Cough And Breathing Difficulty?

I am concerned because i am coughing a lot... I don t notice it but my grown children do. I also seem to get out of breath and get a coughing fit much more when I exhale rather than inhale. If I try to practice deep breathing, inhaling slowly to fill my lungs, I just cough and cough. I have NEVER smoked!

Hi,

A chronic cough and breathing difficulty is a matter of concern. It can be due to:
- Bacterial infection like tuberculosis.
- Allergic reaction.
- Chronic bronchitis if you are more than 40 years of age.
- Underlying lesion anywhere in the lung.

If you are coughing more than two or three weeks you need to test to rule out the possibility of tuberculosis.

You also need to have a general physical examination and radiographic tests to find the status of your lungs.

I suggest you visit a nearby hospital and get self-checked to rule out the possibility of any underlying disease.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
