Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 58 years old, male, very healthly , have not taken any pain or prescription meds in over 10 years, I have had a presentant cough , hacking, non productive for almost 2 weeks, today I just all over feel bad, and think I may have had a fever some of the day
Since you are having cough for 2 weeks & do not have history of any lung disease, it has occurred due to breathing irritants like smoke, smog, fumes or any other pollution allergic to your system. Other causes can be bacterial or viral infection. It looks like allergic cough complicating to acute bronchitis.
Visit ER, get physically examined, get investigations (Chest X-ray, Spirometry, Sputum culture) done. In the meantime, you can take non-sedating antihistamines (Levocetirizine), Augmentin (Amoxicillin & clavulanate), Acetaminophen (Tylenol) for relief from pain & fever after consultation with a Physician. You may need bronchodilators. Left untreated acute bronchitis can become chronic or complicate to Asthma. Avoid smoking & abstain from addictions if any.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
