Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been having a cough for about 15 days...went to my doctor and said this stuff is going around...I should drink lots of water and trying Mucinix...have been doing both.....I have to cough very hard to get the mucus up and then it is thick and green and bits of pieces as small as my little finger nail...
As per your query, you have symptoms of a chronic cough and green phlegm which seems to be due to chest infection/ chronic upper respiratory tract infection.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you do warm saline gargles. Keep your head elevated using a pillow. Avoid intake of sharp, spicy food and cold carbonated beverages.
You should consult ENT specialist once for upper respiratory tract infection. The Doctor will examine you clinically and may prescribe antibiotics along with anti-allergic medications. The Doctor may order an x-ray chest to detect the level of infection.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
