What Causes Chronic Cough And Shortness Of Breath?
my husband starting having problems about a year ago after a really bad coughing fit. He feels like there is a popping under his left rib cage. He did have shortness of breath, and then heavy bruising around his abdomen. They blamed it on damage from the coughing. More than a year later, he still feels the discomfort from the popping. Now, he is experiencing nausea, which he believes is related to this popping rib symptom. who should he follow up with?

The chronic cough can be from chronic bronchitis, COPD, allergic infection, tuberculosis, secondary to acid reflux, etc. According to cause specific treatment given. Here bruise in rib can be from excess cough or costochondritis like inflammation condition. Ibuprofen can be prescribed for costochondritis. Local part rib x ray will be beneficial. For cough CBC with AEC, chest x ray, spirometry etc like investigation beneficial. If productive cough present than sputum examination advisable. Hope this will help you.
