What Causes Chronic Cough In A Pneumonia Patient Despite Taking Levaquin And Nebulizer?
I have a 60y old friend who is admitted to the hospital with dx pneumonia. His cough is harsh and nonproductive-very bronchial without rattling congestion. He has been on Levaquin, Rocephin, albuterol per nebulizer for a couple of days with no change in cough. Could a medrol dose pack help?
Understanding your concern. As per your query your friend have symptoms of chronic cough in a pneumonia despite taking Levaquin and Nebulizer which is due to persistence of upper respiratory tract infection and poor immunity of body. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to avoid use of sharp and spicy food substances. Do warm saline gargles and take steam twice a day. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. Medrol pack will be effective. Your symptoms will resolve in 1 week. if symptoms keeps on persisting you should consult ENT specialist/pulmonologist for complete examination and take proper treatment. You should get X-ray chest done along with pulmonary function tests. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics amoxicillin or penicillin at least for 5 days along with decongestant.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
