What Causes Chronic Cough Upon Quitting Smoking And Drinking?
hello I am an alcoholic and smoker. I have been clean of all drugs and alcohol for 2.5 months now. Upon quitting all bad habits I developed and cough almost right away and at first I though it was just a cold so I medicated with otc drugs however I did not see any improvements so I quit self medicating. its been like I said two months now and although my coughing has not stopped completely. Let me explain, during any given time I can have a cough attach that leaves me short of breath and it cause major head pressure to the point that I get a slight nose bleed. The coughing is with great force and it leaves me short of breath and at times I ve even vomited due to the pressure I feel in my lower stomach area. I keep thinking its my body trying to get rid of many years of smoking and alcohol and drug abuse. Should I be alarmed or seek a doctor immediately?
Quitting smoking can cause coughing in some people. however, since you were a chronic smoker with acute onset persistent coughing Chest Xray is recommended to rule any lung masses (lung carcinoma)
