What Causes Chronic Cough When Diagnosed With Laryngopharyngeal Reflux?
So i had this videolaparascopy surgery and it s been almost a month. I ve done because i had been diagnosticated with Gastroesophageal Reflux and Laryngopharyngeal Reflux due to the acid content arriving in my throat, and these diseases were causing productive chronic cough with mucus. So i ve just done a nasopharyngoscopy and i ve been still diagnosticated with Laryngopharyngeal Reflux as i am still having chronic cough. So i m worried, am i supposed to wait like 3 more months as the doctor advised or can i consider the the surgery didn t address my chronic cough problem?
Surgery is not a preferred way to treat gastroesophageal reflux (GERD). Most of the times a PPI (omeprazole) and in some cases metochlorpramide can be used to help with the symptoms and the cough.
You should also make sure you eat frequent small amount of food, avoid alcohol, smoking, caffeinated and energy drinks to avoid reflux. You will need to avoid spicy food and food that you notice make the symptoms worse. Raising the bed had with bricks might help with GERD at night and improve the symptoms.
If these do not work and the cough is really bothersome, then the doctor might consider doing the surgery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
