What Causes Chronic Cough While Having Upper Respiratory Infection?

So I recently had what I assume to be an upper respiratory infect (thick green mucus being coughed up, painful crackling in lungs, chronic coughing, etc). I was unable to go to the doctor due to the fact of having no insurance this year. I then started to experience sever sinus pressure, the feeling of clogged ears, hearing myself and feeling like I'm in a box and a haze. The cough is still here but easing away but I just feel like junk still. I dont know what to do.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for trusting Healthcaremagic!
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.

All the symptoms you have mentioned suggestive of ARI(Acute respiratory tract infection) possibly sinusitis.
I suggest you to consult a general practitioner and get the following things done:-
1.Take a chest X-ray PA view to rule out pneumonia and other lung conditions.
2.Do routine blood and urine investigations.
3.You need to start a short course of antibiotics for five to seven days.
4.You can use simple analgesics like acetaminophen or ibuprofen for fever and pain.
5.antihistamine and nasal decongestants would provide symptomatic relief.
6.Do warm saline gargles and steam inhalation.
7.Quit smoking and avoid smoke and dust.

Most of the cases improve with above described measures,If symptoms persist despite all these other investigations like CT scan and intravenous antibiotics may be needed as advised by your physician.
Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing you good health.

Regards.
