Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Have a problem with generation of throat mucous. Especially thick after eating. I am a singer, but finding a progressively worsening need to keep clearing the throat to use clear voice. Mucous coughed up is always clear, but persistent. At a previous time was diagnosed with a floating hiatal hernia, and in fact at one point it had to be cauterized when it started to bleed. Can that still be the primary problem or is something else developing. I am a 78 year old male.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of dry cough which seems to be due to lung infection and bronchospasm and not due to medications you are taking. The symptoms can also occur due to post nasal drip , acid reflux or upper respiratory track infection. I would suggest you to consult pulmonologist. Doctor may order blood test , throat swab test and get an x ray of the chest and Immunoglobulin G levels checked for further treatment. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics along with decongestants and mucolytic agents. Doctor may also refer you to ENT specialist. Do warm saline gargles with pinch of salt water. Take expectorants and steam inhalation and take rest. You should avoid hot, heavy and spicy foods.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
