What Causes Chronic Diarrhea And Yellow Stool In An Elderly Person?
I am a female 66 yr old and have had diarrhea for 23 days. My stool is yellow and I go around the clock. I went to the hospital lastweek and they forwarded to my dr that my liver enzymes where elevated. I don t feel well at all. My dr took me off my acid reflux pills and my cholesterol pills. I am only on anti depressants. These pills are new pills he prescribed in May 2016. Prior to that never any liver problems. He is retesting my levels on Monday. Do you think there is any urgency to expedite my followup?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Loss of appetite, nausea&diarrhea are signs of a severe liver problem. Even if you don't have these.
It's advisable to get your liver function tests done.earliest. keep well hydrated, eat light carbohydrate diet, drink a lot of water and take rest.
* You have to attend ER if there is dehydration, black tarry stools. (indicating blood in stools), uncontrollable nausea or diarrhea.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
