Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Chronic Diarrhea When Diagnosed With Interstitial Pulmonary Disease?
My ex-husband is 67 years old. About two and a half years ago he was diagnosed with interstitial pulmonary disease and is currently taking experimental medication which is causing continuous diarrhea. Our four adult children are very concerned about him, needless to say. Although the second oldest, our daughter, doesn t think he will live another year, my ex- husband states he is in denial and could live past 90 yrs. What do I need to know to help our children to understand their father s state of health. Having chronic diarrhea doesn t sound good to me.
Sorry to hear about your ex-husband. As he is 67 and diagnosed with interstitial lung disease due to medication and other experiments which he is doing might be leading to diarrhea.
Usually this is called the waste of the body to come out. His intestines are not able to hold the food which can digest absorb and the only excretion is happening.
Due to non absorption there might be a thought to undergo a stool examination and also ultrasound scanning.
You have to guide your children that whatever he is going through could be the out of the control effects of the medicine or experimental medicine he is taking now.
He might get dehydrated and may lead to other complications. It's better to shift him to a hospital and get treated accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
