There can be secondary bacterial infection or secondary allergic reaction also. If mucous is thick and yellowish antibiotics will be needed. Taking combination of antihistamines like levocetirizine and mast cell stabilizer like monteleukast for 1 to two weeks will be helpful to correct the cough also. Avoid cold drinks and dusty environment. Taking warm fluids will be helpful. You can take tea with lemon and honey and take chewable vitamin C also. Hope this may help you.
