What Causes Chronic Excessive Phlegm In Throat?

I have had clear excessive phlegm in my throat for 3 years. Been tested for acid reflux and post nasal drip. Nothing found that was the cause. I coughed and choked for a very long time interrupting my sleep and quality of life. I do have vocal cord dysfunction. I somehow with my doctor have figured out something to do with spasms in my throat which is causing the phlegm. She has given me muscle relaxers and Lortab and it pacifies the problems. Does this make any sense??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It may be due to respiratory tract infection. For further assessment, you may require complete hemogram, throat swab, chest X-ray, pulmonary function test after chest physician consultation.

Further treatment mainly depends upon the underlying condition. You may require antibiotics after consultation. Continue saline or betadine gargles twice a day. Take hygienic food and water.br>
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale, General & Family Physician
