What Causes Chronic Increased Saliva Production And Taste Difference?

Hello,

I have been experiencing an increased amount of saliva production, and a faint metallic taste in my mouth for the last month. Also, I'm very prone to becoming hypoglycemic, on a near daily basis. This has been happening for several years. Normally, I manage this well with a high protein, low sugar diet, but recently, my blood sugar levels have been more difficult to maintain.

Kind Regards,
Katie

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain metallic taste in mouth and increase in saliva flow can be due to hypoglycemia or reduced blood glucose levels..
It occurs due to increased Adrenaline production due to hypoglycemia leading to alteration in taste..
As you already have a history of hypoglycemia it seems to be a cause in your case..
I would suggest you to consult a Diabetologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Fasting and post meal blood glucose levels, glycosylated Haemoglobin levels, urine tests can help in ruling out the exact status and treatment can be planned accordingly..
In case if Hypoglycemia is ruled out as the culprit you can be advised to take a proper meals containing a combination of carbohydrates, fats and proteins..
Low sugar diet will further increase the risk of hypoglycemia, therefore you need to take appropriate sugar in diet..
You should consult with a Nutritionist and get a proper diet plan made that has to be followed for relief from symptoms..
You should also keep sugar pills and candies with you that can be taken if suddenly you start getting lethargic or low in energy..
You can gargle with a flavored mouthwash and chew flavored chewing gum as it will help in masking bad taste..

Thanks and regards.
