General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I am sorry you are having so much insomnia. I know how miserable that can be. If you have bipolar disorder, this needs to be managed with your psychiatrist because management of sleep problems in bipolar disorder needs to be done carefully to not cause an exacerbation. You may need a sedating antidepressant and a sedating atypical antipsychotic medication such as Seroquel. The short-acting "sleepers" such as Lunesta really have their limitations and changing or going off of them can set off insomnia.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bonnie Berger-Durnbaugh, General & Family Physician
