Hello,
Not all lumps at the back of the head and neck are harmful. They can be due to injuries, bone spurs, inflamed hair follicles, cysts, lipomas, enlarged cervical lymph nodes, tumor (benign or malignant) etc. Since the lump is immobile, hard & not painful. If it is continuing to grow and you see unexpected
weight loss you should get your son clinically examined by a GP. This is to stay on the safer side.
Get blood tests, X-ray , CT & MRI done get it diagnosed at the earliest so that treatment can be started. He may also need a biopsy done. Brain tumors manifest with symptoms of
tingling & numbness. If brain tumor is not detected numbness and
insomnia are treatable with medicines,
physical therapy and
counselling. Sleeping posture and mattress / pillow should be comfortable.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
