What Causes Chronic Itching After A Cholecystectomy?
I HAD A CHOLECYSTECTOMY WITH ASSOCIATED PANCREATITIS 15 MONTHS AGO. itching STARTED LAST JULY AND HAD BEEN MORE INTENSE RECENTLY. DERMATOLOGISTS HAVE HAD ME ON ORAL STEROIDS AND TOPICAL STEROIDS. ONLY MED TAKEN REGULARILY PRE PURITIS IS ADVAIR 250/50. I NOW TAKE ZYRTEC AND BENADRYL ALONG WITH ADVAIR WHICH I USE MORE AS A PRN RATHER THAN A Q 12 HR. SCHEDULE. ANY THOUGHTS ON WHETHER OR NOT THIS COULD BE SECONDARY TO THE CHOLECYSTECTOMY? I ALSO HAVE MANY ALLERGIES.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Itching after cholecystectomy has to be evaluated thoroughly. Strictures arising as a complication of cholecystectomy can cause itching. Make sure that you don't have any jaundice. Do an ultrasound scan to look for any abnormalities or dilatation of bile duct. If some suspicion arises, consult a general surgeon and get evaluated.
Wishing you good health.
thanks.
