What Causes Chronic Itchy Red Bumps That Leave Scars?
hi there, I went to cuba in april and I noticed when I came back within 2 weeks I started feeling itchy... and then these bumps started to show... it is now nearing the end of june and I still have these big bumps and they are extremely itchy.. some leave scars when I scratchh but are still bumpy
Itchy bumps after a tour commonly occurs due to allergy caused by polluted water, food allergy, contact dermatitis, scabies, dry skin, direct exposure to sunlight, excessive heat, etc. Take care of your hygiene, take regular bath. Put a few drops of Dettol, Savlon or neem oil in the water with which you will bathe.
Apply hydrocortisone cream or calamine based lotions. Cold compress or ice compress will ease the discomfort. You can take antihistamines, once daily for 5-7 days for relieve. If sexually active with multiple partners get STD tests done. If tested positive you will be treated with antibiotics and antivirals.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
