What Causes Chronic Knee Pain While Running And Swimming?

My knee has been bothering me for about 3 weeks. Started on a day where I swam my normal 1500m in a pool in the morning. in the evening I ran 3 miles. Felt a little annoyance in my knee after the run. Ever since, now I have pain when I run or swim. I do feel a pop in the knee when I climb steps as opposed to the other knee.
