What Causes Chronic Lower Back Pain Along With Numbness In Leg?
Hi, I have been having chronic back pain for 6 yrs, I work as a nurse and injured my back...my job is physically demanding as I work in a long term care facility...I ve have an MRI which showed disc bulging...I have pain everyday some days worse than others, mostly I feel the pain in my lower back and in my left leg....I have numbness in my leg as well as burning and tingling...I have seen 2 specialists who say I m not a candidate for surgery, my concern is that I m getting worse and I feel as though I m slipping through the system...any suggestion would be greatly appreciated....thanks!!!
Hello and welcome to HCM, The bulging of the inter-vertebral disc is most probable cause of lower back pain. The pain in left leg is probably due to compression of nerves emanating from the spinal cord. The bulging disc seem to compress the spinal nerves emanating from spinal cord. Bulging disc is managed conservatively with rest and pain killers for the pain. Surgery is suited for patients who develop disc prolapse. Treatment in your case will be aimed to bring back the bulging disc to normal position. Rest will help to bring back the disc in place along with physiotherapy. I suggest you to consult your orthopedician and physiotherapist for management.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
