Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Chronic Pain And Stiffness In The Neck?
I was born without shoulder sockets. I have no glenoid cavity. They officially called it, dysplasia by hypotrophy. My scapula is misformed, shoulder blades are displaced. I have arthritis. My Orthopedic surgeon speculated that is the primary cause of my pain. My neck is constantly stiff as well. That being said, I have lifted weights, am fairly strong, have full range of motion and work physical labor. However, the pain is affecting me in many aspects of life. I spoke with two Orthopedic Surgeons and both said my only option is physical therapy. Which has helped tremendously, but feels as if it s only putting off the inevitable. Is it likely that any type of surgery is simply not worth the risk?
Due to improper posture you had probably got a spasm of your neck muscles and probably it was more on the right side. You had done the right thing by doing neck exercises. However, in such cases taking paracetamol and hot compress can also be relieved. The ear infection is probably unrelated. Rather than an ear infection, it seems to me that you could be having sore throat.
There is a tube that connects between the middle ear cavity and the throat and it is likely that the problem thereby involved your ear(s). Gurgling with lukewarm water should provide relief. The open heart surgery that you had in your childhood probably directly concern us in such a case, but I would suggest you to cut down on your smoking if possible.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
