What Causes Chronic Pain In The Lower Back With Difficulty While Walking?

My wife is dealing with very significant pain in her lower back. She has difficulty walking. Yesterday, by phone her doctor prescribed tizanidide HCL (one pill every 8 hrs. and acetaminophen-cod #3 (one every 6 hours). Pain has been reduced somewhat but she still is having great difficulty walking without intense pain.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

I think you should do an MRI of the spine to rule out serious problems that may need surgery such as lumbar discal hernia or other conditions. Once this examination is normal then you can continue with non-operative treatment such as medication and physical therapy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Edvin Selmani
