coughing phlegm a lot. coughing lasts a long time 10 to 20 minutes. Been to Dr. , xray was clear. Doc gave me a inhaler. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn t. Also gave me Benzonatate 200mg 3 tad.Ah yes it works sometimes. Now i m taking Azithromycin 250 mg 1. tad. phlegm is clear. I had this for almost a month and not much relief. I feel ok other than that. except for when I get those coughing spells. Any Suggestions ?
Studies have shown that patients with a chronic cough who do not smoke, don't use a blood pressure medication called an ACE inhibitor, and have a normal chest x-ray, most likely the cause of the cough is either upper airway cough syndrome (similar to post-nasal drip), asthma, or gastroesophageal reflux.
It sounds like your doctor has tried treating post-nasal drip and asthma, but one thing you might try is treating for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and see if that helps with your cough.
If the cough persists despite all these treatments, the next step may be to get a CT scan of your chest to make sure there is not another cause for your cough.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
