Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Chronic Sense Of Obstruction In Throat?
For the past month I have felt like something is stuck in my throat. Feels like when you swallow a pill and it does not go down all the way. I have had this feeling for the past month on and off. It started right before I got influenza b. I am otherwise a very healthy person. No medications. It does not hurt and does not bother me when eating or drinking.
A condition called globus pharyngeus occurs in some people in which there is no active pathology and the problem is related to stress, anxiety etc. Another condition in which these symptoms can come up is GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease) in which acid regurgitates from stomach to throat and causes the feeling of lump in throat.
I would advise you to review with your treating doctor and get GERD ruled out. Once its ruled out, I would advise you to visit an ENT specialist for examination of your throat. If you are found clear by him also then you would be required to visit a psychiatrist to get evaluated for stress and anxiety.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
