What Causes Chronic Vomiting And Excessive Weight Loss?

I am currently being tested for achalasia. The manometer test show very little movement in esophagus and very relaxation of stomach. I am throwing up about 30 times a day and can not keep food down and have trouble with liquids. I have lost about 100 lbs and am weak and tired all the time. Any suggestions.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
I understand your concern. Achalasia is a condition that involves failure of the ring valve between the foodpipe and the stomach to open upon swallowing. When the food passes from the food pipe to the stomach, the valve is supposed to open when the nerve cells sense the food coming. However, due to unknown reasons, in patients with Achalasia, these nerve cells undergo degeneration, thus the valve does not get the message in order to open.
The food accumulating in the food pipe can cause of the problems you mention.
There are several treatment options, such as balloon dilation, surgery (that involved cutting of the muscles around the ring valve) and botox, but none of this methods can guarantee a definitive treatment.
Eating small soft meals multiple times per day is the sensible thing to do.
I hope this helps.
Wishing you good health and all the best.
