What Causes Cigarette Smell In The Nose While Suffering From Liver Cancer?

Hello - I am a 50 yr old female with II Diabetes (pretty bad) and stage 4 inoperable liver cancer. I have had tumors for around 15 years now. Found my first tumor myself and was misdiagnosed in 2004 as a lipoma. Major surgery remove the lg grapefruit sized tumor and the tail of my pancreas. No chemo. Cancer returned in 2010 in my liver - 2 tumors. Have been dealing with new diagnosis naturally. Going well but is there a reason why I seem to smell cigarette smoke a lot even though I m not around cigarettes at all?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my surgical experience, the cigarette smell is most likely due to damage involving olfactory bulb, cells or nerve at CNS level. As there is history of unresectable liver cancer, metastasis to brain is of prime concern and I would quote MRI brain for confirmation of my opinion ahead.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
