What Causes Clay Colored Stool And Burning Stomach While Suffering From Liver Disease?

Hi, I ate lot of spicy food and heat got generated in my body. A bit of burning sensation was there in my stomach. I know it is wrong but, on top of it, I ate chicken. I was not able to resist myself from chicken that day. From the next day, I encountered pale colored stool which changed to clay color that evening. I checked several site online and I thought that I got jaundice as clay colored stool indicates liver related issue. The thing is, I don t have much fever and I don t have bad breath or indigestion problem. The only symptoms I was able to observe now are, 1 - Pale or clay colored stool 2 - Burning sensation in stomach (It is raising when I have hot water or any hot substance) I am suffering from this from the past 2 days. Curious to know what exactly happened to me. I am currently surviving on fruits and curd rice (Lite weight food). Please help me. Thanks, Kumar.

Hi,

Do you have any past history of liver disease? Pale coloured stool can happen in liver disease(obstruction to bile flow), but in that case it will be associated with jaundice(yellow coloured eye ball) and yellow coloured urine.

In absence of these symptoms, this is probably just a reflection of diet change. This will be back to normal in a couple of days.

Burning in stomach and abdominal discomfort after eating indicates acute gastritis, again from having the said change in diet.

For such cases, I used to give acid suppressants like pantoprazole 40mg once daily along with antacids for 5-7 days. Your doctor will guide you.

Meanwhile avoid spicy/fried food items, take enough fruits and vegetables, and drink enough fluids. Also, avoid hot items.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK
