What Causes Clear Discharge From The Nipples?

Hi: I am a 76 year old woman, in relatively good health, (I have polycythemia vera controlled by Jakafi medication) and have noticed about once or twice a week that upon arising from sleep and standing I have a little discharge, clear, from my right nipple. I have self - examined and find no lumps, no tenderness, no redness or change in my breast or nipple. I did nurse two of my children 45-50 years ago. Any concern?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I understand your concern.

Although no lumps you found on your self exam of your breasts, I highly recommend to consult with your physician and run ultrasound of the nipples to rule out malignancies first.

Any recent inflammation or infection of the breasts is also to consider but should rule out malignancies first.

Discuss this further with your caring doctor.
All the best.
