What Causes Clear Fluid Oozing From Puncture Wound?
My mother noticed her leg was very swollen yesterday (she does have some circulation problems and is regularly seen by her dr.) so she went and put it up and as she did, she bumped a book by her calf leaving a tiny puncture. A few minutes later she noticed there was liquid slowing dripping from the puncture. She kept wiping and it slowly kept leaking. Has never happened before.
Clear fluid oozing from the swollen puncture wound is due to venous insufficiency, lymphedema, water retention, skin ulcer, kidney disease, heart issues, etc. You are suggested to get a thorough medical check up done. Get required blood and urinalysis done to detect the factors causing you discomfort. Cut on your salt intake. Avoid sedentary lifestyle. If hypertensive maintain your blood pressure at all cost. If diabetic control your blood sugar levels.
Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected and severity of your symptoms. You may require oral or intravenous antibiotics. Keep your foot elevated on a pillow when on bed & on a stool when seated. Take care of your hygiene. For relief, you can take pain killers and anti-inflammatory medicines.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
