Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Clear Liquid Discharge From The Wound Post Cleansing A Gashed Shin?
I gashed my shin open while I was way out in the woods. I rinsed it with saline solution, picked up the wrong cleansing pad that had alcohol and lite myself up. I pulled the meat and skin from under the upper part of my leg. Cleanse it the proper way, dried with a gauge sponge after pulling the skin back down. I closed it up as much as one person could and put on steri-stripes. I covered the strips with liquid skin, wrapped the wound and made the trek back to my tent. Things have gone well, except after 10 days, it started leaking a clear fluid when I was standing. What is this clear liquid? This wound does not look infected and I have been taking an antibiotic. I had the clear liquid leak out of another would a long time ago and it was infected. But you could tell it was infected.
It is just an ooze of edema fluid. Nothing much to worry and it will settle by itself. As of now you can apply over the counter available topical antibiotics like mupirocin for symptomatic relief.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
