What Causes Clenching Of Teeth Post Intake Of Xanax?

I have been on xanax for 15 yrs due to anxiety disorder, emotional disorder and ptsd. For the last few months after taking one, I start clinching my teeth. Wanting to know if the pharmacuetical companies are messing with the ingredients that have always helped with my anxiety?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I am sorry you are experiencing this. I looked up all side effects of alprazolam (Xanax) and found, although uncommon, that in the list of possible side effects there were these:

-twitching, twisting, or uncontrolled repetitive movements of the tongue, lips, face, arms, or legs
-muscle spasms

So although rare, I can't say that what you are experiencing isn't a possibility from the medication.

I understand that you never had this before and so you are wondering if there is a change to the medication itself.

If you are using a generic form, there are different companies that make these, and sometimes pharmacies such as Walgreens or others will switch which manufacturer they are purchasing from.

Each of these different companies will use, in addition to the actual medication (in this case alprazolam), different fillers and binders. I don't know if that might be contributing to the problem.

If you are not using the brand name (ie using generic), you can ask the pharmacy where you get it filled if they switched carriers for it around the time that you began noticing this problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
