What Causes Clogged Ears With Pain In The Ear After Swimming?

Today we went to the swimming pool and when I submerged myself I blew air out of my nose. The moment I did that I felt a pop in my right ear and instant pain. This happened 3 hours ago and it still is painful and my equilibrium is off. What is this and how do I fix it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Drinking water, chewing gums & yawning can help open eustachian tubes & help reduce clogging or fullness. Valsalva maneuver effectively helps reduce the pressure in the ears.

You are suffering from swimmers ear or AOM(Acute otitis media). Take decongestants & acetaminophen (Tylenol) for relieve.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by an ENT, you may need antibiotics if its infection that is causing the pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
